Sones de Mexico Ensemble September 9

Sauk Valley Community College invites the public to a free performance by Sones de Mexico Ensemble on September 9 at 12:20 in the SVCC Dillon Mall.

The two-time GRAMMY™ Nominated group proves that there is so much more to Mexican music than mariachi. Sones de México Ensemble is the country’s premier folk music organization specializing in Mexican ‘son’, including the regional styles of huapango, gustos, chilenas, son jarocho, and more.

Sones de México Ensemble educates, preserves, performs, and disseminates Mexican folk and traditional music and dance to children and adults of all nationalities, physical abilities, and cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Experience a guided tour through Mexico’s folk music regions with music, dance, narration, and multimedia. Different regions of the country have unique instruments, repertoire and techniques rarely heard outside these regions. Bring family and friends and discover everything you ever wanted to know about Mexico’s regional folk culture and music.

Sones de México Ensemble has been the winner of the Best Latin Entertainer in the Chicago Music Awards for four consecutive years: 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. Their children’s album “Fiesta Mexicana” also won a Parents’ Choice™ Award.
